he does say stuff out of turn, but on reading a number of works on his life, he comes across as quite a nice man. Must have been hard giving up a full time career in the Navy to traipse around after the Queen, to be thought of as second to her,
When i was in the army, an officer asked me how the cricket was going. My reply was that as i didn't follow cricket, in fact found it boring, i did not know.He concluded that i was the most un-English Englishman he had ever come across. He was right; just scored a 10 with the disdainful comment that i would be better off in the colonies:-)
An honest score of 12 but I want to claim 9 instead.
A - I was obliged to attend a Save The Children function and was introduced to the patron, Princess Anne (a nice big lassie, by the way).
B - A girl I knew married an Englishman and they moved to Hong Kong in the early 90s. I was invited over and one of the 'delights' was that he had bought me a ticket for the Sixes Cricket Matches. Oh Joy!!!
C - The Glasgow Warriors Rugby Club moved into Firhill Stadium (Partick Thistle FC's ground) a few years ago. Thistle are my local team and so out of curiosity I went along to see a rugby match. Curiosity killed more than the cat!! Thankfully they've moved to the west end of the city to be amongst their own (chancers).
I tallied up a score of jolly old eight, and had this written on my report card: "Blimey, that’s disappointing! You’re not very English at all — in fact, you’d probably feel more at home in the Colonies. No scones for you, I’m afraid."
