Pc Having Trouble Connecting To Browsers

Hi peeps
My PC has been struggling to connect to any browsers or programmes (Chrome, Safari, IE, Skype, Steam, etc) and pages partially load or time out altogether despite the wireless receiver stating I have good to excellent connection.
On further inspection, my internet speed is only registering 1.0Mbps when a laptop receiving the same the connection in the same room registers 15Mbps.
I have checked and changed all that I could find via Google and nothing has improved the quality.
It was working perfectly over the past week but it did an update a couple of days ago making me think it was that so I did a system restore, again, to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Given that the laptop is getting a good signal, it's unlikely to be interference to the router's channel that's causing the problem. However I suggest trying the laptop in exactly the same location that the PC normally occupies in the room, just to be sure. There's just a possibility that interference from other equipment, such as your next-door neighbour's router or TV set, might be to blame. (If you do find a problem you'll need to change the channel on the router. Post again, telling us the make & model of the router, if you're unsure how to do that).

Thanks for the quick reply. I have done exactly that; my girlfriends laptop works perfectly no matter where we are in the house. I have swapped the position of both over the course of two days. The router is a BT HomeHub 3 I believe and it has been reset more than once.
