Is it possible to "burn off" ornamental grass in the Spring without killing it or is cutting it down the only safe way?

Yes, grasses have evolved to withstand naturaly occuring fires and actualy bennifit from it. A controlled burn is recomended for pampas grass and the palm-like Austrailian grass known as black boy.

It sounds obvious and silly but it has to be said, Make sure the fire dose not spread, keep some water handy and dont use any imflamables.

The potash will act as a natural fertiliser. Good Luck..

Thank you. This will be certainly easier than cuttting it off and taking it to the yard waste pile to burn. I have 27 clumps of Zebra Grass.
