Hi. I like to have a drink at weekends, I've noticed as I'm getting older, it's getting tougher! I don't wake with a hangover, but a washed out feeling - which is ok on a Sunday when I'm just pottering about, but I'm finding now that I still feel like that on a Monday at work. Last couple of weeks I'm struggling to get up on a Monday, and basically just feel tired and drained. I'm not a hardened partygoer - I drink at home while watching TV. I know some will say 'drink less / give it up' but I enjoy it! I work full time, so I spend my weekends (if I can!) doing things I like. I've been dieting and eat really healthy last couple of months, and was wondering if their was some sort of 1 or 2 day detox I could follow say on Sundays/Mondays that may take the feeling away? :-)

nope. You know the answer....If its any comfort, i feel your pain. I have never been a heavy drinker, never regularly exceeded the 14 unit suggested level and, because of travelling with my DH on oil tankers, spent a long period of my life when for 7 to 9 months a year, drank nothing at all because the ships were dry. Even so I still find that I can drink much less than I used to and some things, notably red wine, I can't tolerate at all.
You already know the answer to this as you have put it in your own post. Either cut down or stop drinking. If it is affecting your normal life and work then you have a problem. There is no detox.

Aw.... I hoped that someone would say 'spend Sundays drinking smoothies and superfood soups and you'll be fresh as by Monday!

Well, your drinking habits do not seem to be "over the top" but the effects seem to be more progressive.

My first thought is to see your GP re thyroid tests as your symptoms may be due to an underactive thyroid made worse by alcohol......which is well known.
Years ago I'd leave work on a Friday and head straight for the bar and sit there 'til closing time. I'd probably drink about 15 pints. I think if I tried that now it would kill me.

Thanks all. And yes I may take it up with a doc actually Squad, as lately not only is it feeling drained etc. but I've been getting hot sweats (I'm a 43yr old woman) but I only get them the day and night after drinking, and I generally just feel more sensitive, prone to frights / upset than I would normally.

A-Ha! here comes menopause! Yes I used to find that drinking more than a little triggered the sweats and flushes.
you don't actually say how much you drink. If it's a lot, well, that's not an unusual outcome. If it's really not that much, then jit would be worth asking yuor GP.
Drink plenty of fluids ..... and I don't mean more alcohol !!
I drink plenty of fluids all through the week and plenty more after my usual weekend session.
I'm 48 and yea, okay..... I feel a bit tender on Sunday, but I'm usually fine on Monday ... I need to be right for Monday, 'cos I'm a window cleaner and the last thing I need is to be feeling light headed when I'm up and down a ladder all day !!
Perhaps you should ask your doctor to do some liver function tests. A shock, such as finding one's liver has been damaged by one's lifestyle, can work wonders.
