What is the fascination with dolls that are so life like they are used as substitute babies?

I find it almost creepy looking at pictures of them.

I know of someone who has 2 beautiful daughter yet still buys the dolls for her own satisfaction, not for the children to play with.

Am I missing something?

no idea, does nothing for me, there could be worse things i suppose

I think they look creepy too, I've never been that keen on dolls or babies for that matter. I suppose it depends on wether they just put them in a display case or treat them like real babies if it's the latter then it might be a bit weird.
For me the joy of having my own real-live babies is that I can watch them grow and develop.

Not sure about these dolls at all, I wouldn't have them but then I wasn't really a dolly kind of wee girl either.
I think they are creepy too, but each to their own i suppose
I agree. I find them creepy and weird. I don't understand it at all.
Could be a comfort to those suffering from empty arms syndrome.

Reborn ?!? I though you were about to tell us about some that were shoved back where they came from.

I think folk like to do different things with their leisure. If someone wishes to play with dolls then fine, that's their bag. But if it is a real child substitute, that does sound like a mental aberration to me. Likely harmless, but might be helped if the medical service is requested.

Completely harmless old_geezer I do agree.

Empty arms syndrome is a possibility hc4361, then that is sad.

I have been looking online adverts and they seem to be big business.
I've seen them used very effectively in therapy for elderly women with dementia - it would have been frowned upon a few years back, but is now recognised as a useful technique.
I think they look dead......
I still love dolls as much as I did when a youngster - would love a new born.
they do look creepy and I agree some look dead, but in general dolls are much uglier i.e. cabbage patch dolls than they used to be when I was little.
