I have a line running through my head but can't remember the title or artist. I feel its something from the 70's, possibly someone like the Ray Conniff singers(crikey i'm old!) and the line is "I hear the music from across the bay". I can't remember any more than this and I'm sure I haven't dreamt it. Please someone help!!!

I can remember when Radio 2 played predominantly this sort of music (how we teenagers made fun of it).
Could it be "Music From Across The Way" by Andy Williams ?

Is this the one? Sung by Andy Williams though maybe others too.

I shared the golden sun with her,
In days that are no more.
I used to love to run with her
Along the sandy shore.
She had a special prayer for me
To help my world go right.
Her hand was always there for me
The coldest winter night.

[Chorus]
I hear the music from across the way,
Across the bridges of my mind.
I lift the misty shades of yesterday
To catch the dreams I left behind.

It was a joy to be with her,
To watch the way she smiled.
I guess I just felt free with her,
So free and young and wild.
I really came to love that girl;
How much she'll never know.
I need the nearness of that girl;
I really miss her so.

[Chorus]

I hear the music from across the way,
Across the bridges of my mind.
I lift the misty shades of yesterday
To catch the dreams I left behind.

Brilliant, should have remembered James Last, he was another of the LP's my parents had and I listened to. I can now tell my mother who looked at me gormlessly when I asked her about it.
