He will be housed in the area put aside for sex offenders I would imagine, they usually are kept away from the 'general population' if possible.

He'll do 6-9 months in a prison and then be moved to an open one for the remainder of his custodial - which ever way you cut it, subject to contrition and behaviour, would be 2.75 years and then parole/tagging.

it seems unusual for the judge to order that the sentences be served consecutively, concurrent seems much more normal practice (not that i have intimate knowledge). It seems crazy that he gets more prison time than some murderers

yeah I thought that might be grounds for an appeal

The law says you ahve to sentence according to principles applying at the time of the offence - and if concurrent sentences werent the norm,
then there are grounds for a reduction

I am not sure if I want judges thinking or doing: I know I should do X ( int his case give a shorter sentence ) so I know ! I will get around doing X by er doing Y...
