Reducing The Height Of Chimneys
5 Answers
I have two chimneys on my 1900s house which I am considering reducing the height as I no longer have fires just gas fires which do not require tall chimneys. Are there any regulations concerning the ventilation of gas fires ?

Just a thought...In reducing the height, if the chimneys are not on the ridge, watch out for prevailing winds which can spill over the roof ridge and blow downwards on a chimney or flue. I've known houses where this is a constant problem, even with an apparently suitable chimney cap, because the chimneys have not been built high enough to counter the effect. E.g. See positions 'Q' on Page 54 of Builder's link, and imagine the wind spilling over the roof ridge onto them.
