Ther are two doors, one leads to hell and one to heaven. In front of each door is a guard. One guard always tells the truth and one always lies ( you do not know which is which). You can ask ONE guard ONE question to help you decide which door to take. What is the question that will enable you to know for sure which is the door to heaven ?
You ask Guard A which door Guard B would say leads to heaven. If Guard A is the the honest guard he will truthfully tell you that Guard B (the liar) will tell you that the door to heaven is in fact the door to hell, however if Guard A is a liar he will lie and tell you that Guard B (now the honest one) would claim that the door to heaven is in fact the door to hell. Either way the real door to heaven is the one which Guard A says Guard B will say is the door to hell
Wow confused myself there! summary:
Ask Guard A which door Guard B would say leads to hell
The door to heaven is the one which Guard A says Guard B will say is the door to hell. (I won't try to explain anymore than I did above but that's the answer... you work out the logic)
it's not which one the other one "thinks" is right, but which the other one will tell you is right. After posting my answer i did a google search and it turned up dozens of websites with variations of this puzzle and the answer explained in a multitude of ways. Try it
Nuts to trying to work that out pick one you've got a fifty-fifty chance and if it's the wrong one well the devil ain't so bad he just gets a bad press.
Well this happened in the Labrynith and she got it wrong - theres a lesson to be learned here. dont ask just take and open both doors. or just go down the pub.
