heard a small item on the radio this morning, (Talksport) where they may be fined £50 million and it has to be paid by this Friday, but no mention of any reason for this fine.

Anyone else heard of this or did I mis-hear or dream it?

I don't follow football, but seems an excessive amount of money.

lol, no :-)

Just thought it excessive, especially when it was mentioned shortly after this 'fair-pay' marlarkey.
It is to do with financial 'fair play' where clubs aren't supposed to spend more than they earn. City have a very wealthy backer, so have run up massive debts over the past couple of years. £50 million quid to their owner is not much at all.
It is because of financial fair play considerations http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/27290532 and they will also only be allowed fewer players that they can use in the Champions League. Man C and Paris St-Germain are the first 2 clubs to be penalised for this but others are expected to be named.

thanks Campbell,

£50 mill to their well-off backer is not much at all?

It's making my eyes water, I wonder if he's a distant relative of mine? :-)
in 2012, he was reported as having assets worth £20 billion. Makes Chelsea's owner look like a pauper.
I suspect he does not work for the NHS.
