I would say its about the right time of the year. I've not been lucky enough to see any in my pond yet, but I wont give up hope yet.
No, it is the right time of year. I've had some for about a fortnight and was rather surprised to see it because of the cold weather we had at the time, including a couple of night frosts. In a mild winter I've had some as early as mid February. I keep a diary note of when it first appears every year in my pond - more out of interest than anything else, but it is a marker on the severity or mildness of the weather we're experiencing at the time.
