I used to make goulash a lot when I had a family at home to feed .
I used to serve it with any of what you've mentioned, dumplings or Spatzle .
Question Author
I didn't think of dumplings, and I'd not heard of spatzle which look very nice for a change.
I can't decide which to do, was hoping someone would say its better with rice..or noodles..or whatever. Which did your family prefer shaney?
I love it with noodles - the green ones sometimes because they look nice.!
i like it with mash or crusty bread
My lot eat anything but preferably dumplings or the spätzle ,which btw you can get at Lidl .
My husband is German and loves potato dumplings with something like that.
Lovely creamy mash.
I'd also go with mash.
Question Author
If we had a lidl near by I'd be tempted to nip out for some.
Mmm, mash, I love mash but would probably end up eating the whole pan full.
I have Chinese type noodles, the sharwoods egg ones which take no time to do, I wonder if they work with it?
I'm not usually this indecisive, and himself isn't being much help either, he says he'll have anything!
Thanks for all your ideas :)

Ha, the mash answers weren't there when I last looked :) Think you just swung it.
The recipe I used, had small chunks of potatoes that I put in raw, then pressure cooked it.
I felt it didn't need anymore bulk than that. Just served it with green veggies.

The recipe I've used is delia smith. It just has meat, peppers and onions chrissa. The only other time I made it was years and years ago and I can't remember what I did with it.
We're actually going to have tagliatelle, as himself, when told we were going to have mash, pulled a face and decided he wouldn't have 'anything' after all, especially if it was mash! Men!!
Question Author
Well, it was delicious and highly recommended. I tweaked delias recipe as I always do, I only use recipes as a guide really. Added twice as much paprika, twice as many onions and extra peppers. Also a knorr beef stock jelly thing and some tomato purée. We both smacked our lips over it and there's enough left over for tomorrow, probably have it with a jacket spud.
Am definitely going to do it again, and get some spatzle to have with it.
Thanks for all your suggestions.
had it alot as a kid
