I have been asked to compile a quiz about the Middle East and I am struggling. Part of the problem is I am getting conflicting information. The more I Google or look things up in encyclopaedias the more confused I’m getting! The information I have found thus far can’t even agree on which countries are in the Middle East! About half the web sites say Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Oman, Yemen, Egypt and Saudi Arabia others add on Israel, Lebanon, Jordan, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Qatar and one site even includes Pakistan. Which would you consider to be correct? Even something as simple as the length of the river Nile can’t be agreed upon, I have found two lengths 6,853 km and 6,650 km!

I have done questions like capitals, flags and people associated with some of the countries mentioned above. I have a large section on food, and am looking for land marks and famous places at the moment, but any help or advice on where I can find reliable information would be much appreciated.

Thank you

Oh boy Methyl! Gulp! Even more countries!

Sorry, yes, as far as I know the audience for the quiz will be predominantly British, from ages 18+ (mostly 40’s, 50’s & 60’s I should think) at a guess it will be mostly female but men are invited. There is a Middle Eastern buffet and the entertainment is a group of belly dancers. Been asked to keep it fairly light, I’ve taken that to be fairly easy so I’ve got a few picture rounds with a choice of answers, but would like a few tougher questions in case it looks like they know their subject.

Thank you for the links, I had found a couple of them myself but will certainly look at the others, I must admit Petra looks wonderful, my nephew went there last year and raved about it.

Yes Im finding that out! It’s not a fundraiser though, it’s hoping to be an entertainment/get together evening for people with stress/anxiety related problems especially those who have carers and the carers themselves, it’s an attempt to get a new social group going.

Never gave tie breaker questions thought, thank you for that.
If you have doubts, quote the source of your answer in the question, eg According to The Beano, what is the longest river in Saudi Arabia

Don't get into arguments over answers, remember the 2 rules of quizzing
Rule 1 - The quizmaster is always right
Rule 2 - If the quizmaster is wrong, Rule 1 applies

If your quiz is for fun, get some silly items for spot prizes for some of the questions, remembering to get one per team member. Pound stores are an excellent source!

If the evening's a success, expect to be asked to set another quiz in future - or maybe part of the winner's prize is for them to set the next one.

Hope these help

Thanks Famous5, now you say that i remember quiz masters saying things like 'according to' before. I love the rules and will follow them to the letter. Good idea about getting the winning group to set the next one, not sure if it would work though we're hoping to try and help people with their stress/anxiety not add to it, but will put it to the organisers.
