Plusnet Upload Speed
14 Answers
Any Plusnet users here?
Do you have slow upload speeds?
A friend is with Plusnet, and having swapped his router and filters for my spares, his upload speed is still very slow.
I've now seen on forums that Plusnet cap upload speeds - has that happened to anybody here?

Hi there, For some time our automated provisioning systems were built to submit 'Up to 19Mbps' 21CN orders with a capped upload (448kbps maximum). We have always been willing to uncap the upload speed on request though (up to ~1.3Mbps). All orders are now submitted with uncapped upload where applicable. I suspect your friend signed up before this change...

PlusNet is owned by BT, check whether you are receiving the Broadband speed set out in the Package you negotiated.
The speeds you indicate are terrible !

I can't see anything particularly unusual in the figures you've reported. My download speed is around 10Mbps, with an upload speed of about 1Mbps and I've found it fairly common for upload speeds to only be about 10% of download speeds. (The asymmetry is deliberately designed into the system to benefit the majority of users who, apart from the obvious request for web pages and a small number of emails with attachments, hardly upload anything anyway).
If Wak is getting near identical upload and download speeds (particularly such a low download figure alongside a reasonably good upload one) he needs to either get the line tested or change his ISP!

His upload speed if fine 4 - 5 mb and I know his upload speed has been good in the past.
Trying to email a 2.3mb file was painfully slow. I hear you say "its not his broadband its his email" - but its not.
Trying to send same file with YouSendIt took ages.
We've swapped his router and filter for my spares - no difference.
Still waiting for response from Plusnet......

I suspect your friend signed up before this change became commonplace. If they get in touch with us, then we'll sort it out for them - http:// www.plu s.net/h ome-bro adband/ contact /
Note that our Fibre products have vastly increased upload speeds of up to 19.5Mbps.
Hope that helps.
Best regards,

Bobpullen - thanks for your reply.
I'll pass this to my friend. He has had no problem in the past with uploads or Skyping. He doesn't do gaming - just emailing files to friends.
We went through the Help Assistant on Sunday after changing filter and router - and haven't had a status update yet!
Is there a charge for uncapping?
Fibre is not available yet.
