Breast Abscesses (Continued...)

Some of you may remember me posting about this back in January when I had mastitis over a large area of one of my breasts and what turned into three separate abscess sites on the underside, not joined but quite close together.

I had a couple of doses of antibiotics, the swelling cleared up very quickly but the abscess sites still haven't cleared up properly.

I hadn't checked them for a while and GP said it could take a while for the sites to clear up, but after a little discomfort the other day it looked like the sites had kind of opened up a bit again. Not that they look like nasty abscesses again but it just looked a bit odd.

Is this anything to be worried about? I am a bit worried the sites still don't seem to be healing, now 4 months on but, if anyone has had any of knows about them, will they just take quite a time to sort themselves out and can I do anything to help the healing along?

I would say you need to hassle your quack again.
Gosh Eve, you really have some crap luck with your health. :(
Go back to your GP for further treatment if you are at all worried about the look of them eve.

Hi, I will go back to the GP. It just seems like one thing after the other Rocky, I'm tired of it. You just keep going but it would be really really nice to have a break x
Did they not drain and pack the abscesses? When my daughter had one on her leg she had to have it surgically cleaned and then packed and redressed on a daily basis for a few weeks. Unfortunately hers had recurred several times and they are now talking about taking a large chunk out of her thigh to try and get rid of it once and for all :-/
Hope sqad see's this, Eve, perhaps he will have some advice for you.
Gawd, you really do have more than your fair share of crap luck medically.

The poor thing, hope they sort it for her.

I have recurrent ones though usually in the groin area. Had antibiotics for a fair few over the years and only had to have one drained and packed so far. Hidradenitis supperativa has been talked about as a cause of them. These ones were the first I've had in the breast area.

I need to get shot of them as I need to stay away from infections due to arthritis medication I'm on. I get marks left from ones I had round my groin area but not as obvious as these ones still are.
Eve, I wish you lots of luck.

I feel like I must be a hive of bacteria of something sometimes! Only just finished a course of antibiotics after one of my toes got infected after podiatry :(

Thanks Rocky, fingers crossed x
I get abcesses a lot Eve and I have had scars for ages they just look red and occasionally "fill" up again. Antibiotics help, this seems to run in my family my brother had to have his sweat glands removed from under his arms many years ago because of abcesses, but he has been hospitalised more than once. Keep bothering your doc until you get sorted.

Thanks Nungate, I think I need to, especially if there is something which could prevent them. Been going on for years now, I can remember the HS condition being mentioned back in 2006 and it had been happening a while then. I remember them saying it could be linked to having PCOS back then.
I remember it well...you went to bed one night symptom free and woke up in the morning with "abscesses."

It may well be that the area that you have mentioned is now a patch of chronic interstitial mastitis and may always be "lumpy" and i do not think that it necessarily is a need for concern, however I would go back to your GP.
Question Author
Thanks Sqad. If it is that, is it something that could be fixable? They don't look very pretty apart from anything else. I had a google but not much info save for medical journals which can be a bit scientific for me.

Will pop to see GP.
