Could anyone please tell me how Lois came into Smallville? I missed the series where she came in. Also, how does she know about Clark's secret?

At the end of one series, Chloe entered a house which promptly blew up, and in the next series it was assumed she had died. Lois is her cousin, and came to investigate her death, and together with Clark, found out she was alive.
