Needing Bank Account For Step Child With Our Address

My partner is needing to set up a bank account for his 15 year old daughter who will soon be 16.

We're needing something for her that is registered in our address and a bank account is the only thing we can think of.

Everything seems to be online now, I've looked around and don't know where to start.

Also, her passport and birth certificate are at her Mums far away. She is going to scan these in for us as this seems to be the forms of ID we need for setting this up for her. Not sure if copies will be allowed though.

That's only because you've searched online. Any local bank branch can still set up a new account.

A normal photocopy (or scanned and emailed copy) almost certainly WON'T suffice. Your stepdaughter's mother will probably need to take the passport into a local solicitor's office to get a 'certified' copy, which can then be posted to you. (It's a simple process and only costs a standard £5 fee).

I went into places today and they told me to go online and gave me a leaflet!! I maybe got someone on a bad day!!

I set up a new bank account earlier this year, with everything done in the local branch (even if it did take a full half hour of ruddy silly questions!). That was with Santander, so it might be worth trying there.

num you need to be determined in this.

it should be one item from list 1 - pass port
and one from list 2 - proof of address, and here a letter posted to her should be sfficient

BC werent good but they may be now - jobsworths will yap about electricity bills and you have to keep on saying she is 15 the bill wont be in her name. and then when the jobsworth triumphantly says then she cant have a bank account then,
Insist that it cant be the first time a 15 y o has opened an account....

torture - absolute torture

and then the jobsworth's mgr said 'but we dont know if you're a drug smuggler ! ' - as if that statement were the equivalent of the ace of trumps

and I said actually you do: I have had this account since 1986 and you know my employer is large and local.....

RBS but they're all crap. The law changed to make them liable if they indulged unknowlingly in drug money trading

so the overpaid jobsworths stuck their pencils in their mouths
and said oh I know - we'll close all their accounts !

Try Nationwide, numnum. I was in the queue behind grandparents setting up an account for a minor the other day, and they sounded very thorough.
