I Wonder Why This Number Is Rising So...

i recently had a minor bump in my car, which l felt was not my fault. my car was undamaged, the other one was slightly damaged. i rang my insurance company for advice, they thought from my explanation that the other driver was in a better position to avoid a collision, but at worst it would be 50 - 50 claim. i gave the guy my insurance details, hoping that he might just let it lie rather than affect his insurance. inadvertenly , i gave him my old car insurance details (dont think tahts relevant at the mo)
anyway, i have just had a solicitors letter off him. he has been and had his car mended at a cost of 375.00 (no quotes first) and presumably his solicitors costs will be on top of that ! his solicitor has sent a letter for me to forward to my insurance company. should i just do that, and let the insurance company deal with it. ?
im worried about the effect on my insurance in the future now .
