Just Had A Very Odd Phone Call
24 Answers
Has anyone else had one like this ?
From supposed Tesco credit card bank ?
The man never introduced himself, and he got my last name wrong.
He said that due to some transaction they had had to block my card.
He asked for my DOB and then signals went off when he asked me for my bank sort code. He said he needed to verify it was my account. I said I would not give him that information, he spoke very fast and when I asked him to slow down he became very condescending. He said unless I could verify my account he could not discuss it further and I should ring the number he had called on which was 01415374000. I hung up, and when I looked inline at my bank it was closed due to maintenance, so I could not call them on the 24 hours number.

They started trying to ask security questions and i said I'm not answering- i should be asking THEM for security. She apologised and we hung up. But how do you know it's genuine?
I recently had several calls from Santander which turned out to be genuine.
After a week of disregarding the calls, thinking they were scams, I received a letter in the post telling me to contact the fraud department.
It turns out they were calling to confirm that I'd made a £250 transaction on the card. The transaction was indeed mine, so all was well, thank goodness.
