I had one for years, then I got a phone call from my GP, they had just discovered it was caused by some sort of bug or bacteria, a course of antibiotics and it was gone in a week.
Generally speaking you will not get rid of it, you will just take omeprazole or similar medication to ease the pain, adjusting your diet will also help.

Yes I've had them though the best treatment depends on the cause. Do you know what caused it, have you seen a Dr and been properly diagnosed and had a test for anything like h pylori?
Have you got any existing/suspected medical conditions which could have caused it or other symptoms, are you on any medications, including over the counter ones like ibuprofen? Some drugs can irritate your tummy and cause an ulcer. Answers to this could assist anyone more knowledgable who is about.
I've had a few diagnosed by a GP, I tend to say suspected as my gastro consultant says it can't be properly diagnosed without a camera down etc... I took my meds (omeprazole) and time differed for each.
As said above, diet is important and also check on any medications you are on in case there is any issue there, don't stop anything without medical advice first though. It will take a lot longer to get better if you are doing anything which continues to irritate it.

Thanks all for your comments.
I have had the stomach pain for about two weeks now, I have previously been tested for H Pylori bacteria, but this was found to be negative. I also had heartburn a while ago and was told by my gp, that I have excess acid in my stomach, they prescribed me some meds that reduced the acid in my stomach and this helped the heartburn, but now I feel that I may have developed an ulcer.
I am due to see my doc again next week, and may have to have it investigated further ie camera down there.
Thanks all again

I recall a TV prog a while ago that IIRC informed us of someone (can not recall the name) who was convinced ulcers were caused by bacteria and so infected themselves, got an ulcer, and used antibiotics to cure it. Apparently it's a lot simpler now to treat that it was a few generations ago. My father suffered from one for years. If only he had known how easy it is to treat.
