Basically that - if a school has no places in a certain year can they not consider any applications at all?

Every school has a PAN (pupil admission number), they might consider an additional pupil if the parents of the pupil appeal successfully but this is an arduous process and shouldn't be undertaken lightly.

Thank you sherrardk. Can I ask why it shouldn't be undertaken lightly? Sorry - just trying to get as much info as possible.
It's not an easy process, there are procedures to follow, meetings/interviews, etc. if you appealing on SEN grounds your child will be involved too.

Thank you. My daughter is not happy at her school. The school is due to close in the next couple of years anyway so I would need to find her a place somewhere eventually. We applied in Feb of this year to a good school but they are full (year 7). I have sent up to date progress reports and the school said again that they are not in a position to consider applications but will contact me again next half term if there is any change. Is there anything else I can do?
Don't think so, sorry. If they are full they are full. Keep her name on the list and hope that someone moves. Sorry to hear that your daughter is not happy.

Thank you. I've emailed the school today to ask where she is on the waiting list. I'm hoping she won't be too far down the list.
Thanks again.
