I'm off for one of these today! Its a minor op to divert the tear drainage via my nose. despite various treatments, the tear ducts are not functioning voluntarily so i'm going for the one with the very long name!

I finally made up my mind and though you might like to know if you're looking in York310. No doubt I'll be around AB over the next few days while I take a few days of work post GA and will let you know how it goes.

What a strange name, who on earth thought that one up, why does it have to be so long?

I can see where the 'rhinostomy' bit comes from. Why doesn't it start with 'lachryo'?

Good point Tilly.......but " dacro" is Greek for tear.

So why dacro instead of lacrimo.....?

Hi, thanks for that Sqad. I must be having the DCR then as they said about taking a piece of bone from my nose but they also mentioned going back a couple of months later to have something removed. Will ask when I go to the pre op.

theshedman.......you will have a temporary stent which will be removed via the nose at about 6 weeks post OP..........this is only temporary.

Home! They were happy to keep me overnight on the ward but i thanked them for their kind offer and opted out!

All's well if a bit sore. I had DCR on one eye and stents for the second time on the other eye. i'll Be happy to tell you all about it tomorrow Shedman as my journey so far has been exactly as you describe yours . If you're about, check in this time tomorrow and we'll share stories.

Now i'm feeling a bit blurry eyed and am settling down for some comfort Tea and biscuits and a bit of channel hopping.

Sqad if you're around, should i use ice pack on my eyes tomorrow to reduce swelling and bruising or leave them alone. I have a dressing on tonight which I must remove in the morning but i fear a very black eye underneath!

Nice to see you back in one piece.....yes use the ice pack about every hour for the first couple of days, but remember to put a cloth of some sort underneath the pack so it is not directly applied to the skin.

Thanks sqad, I'm using a cold pack wrapped in a tea towel. It's strange not to have been sent home with any after care instructions except not to blow the nose. The cold compress is soothing and stops the mild nose bleeding.

I had a very good nights sleep and am feeling fine this morning if a bit congested. There's a lot less pressure now the dressing is off.

Shedman, if you're looking in please fire away if you have any more questions. I had DCR on one eye and DCP (the stents) on the other. It was done in a day, but it took a little longer than i expected. A couple of hours in prep, a couple of hours under GA and four hours on a ward.

I came home with a dressing on the DCR eye which i took off myself this morning. I was delighted to find three small stitches and a bit or soreness but no black eye! Now its a routine of antibiotics, eye drops and a cold pack over the eyes. I go to the GP in a week to have stitches removed, back to the surgeon in 3 weeks and again in 6 weeks for removal of stent in DCP eye.

Yesterday it all seemed a bit drastic for a watery eye, but today it feels fine and all in all, easier to deal with than the procedure under local which made me wince!

Hi Maydup, glad to hear all went well. Sounds like it is the same one I will be having the DCR that is. Got to have it done on both eyes so it will be 2 trips for me. Not looking forward to it but if it stops me crying all the time and them getting infected it will be worth it. When I went in last time I had a local in both eyes then couldn't see much but heard them and it sounded like they were cutting little bits on each one, I heard 3 snips on each side then put something down them that sounded like a very quiet dentists drill. Although I couldn't feel it, it's the fact you know they are doing something very close to the eye that makes you apprehensive. As you say being put out isn't fun but at least it will save having to listen to that again. Anyway hope everything works out fine for you. Shed.

I have had the tubes and the stent out today - woohoo. Worked a treat and all done now until my check up in 6 months time.
