Hi , my house has a. Railway line that runs at the bottom of the garden , fenced off of course but quite close to house. They are currently electrifying the network and I arrive home tonight to find a horrendous massive steel electric pylon right at bottom of my garden ! It's an eyesore! Is there anything I can do? Plus little concerned as it's live!
So long as it is within the railway's boundary there is nothing you can do. The railway authorities do not need planning consent as the work is undertaken by "permitted development rights".
There is no danger from the catenary support itself. The live wires which provide current to the trains are fully insulated from the metalwork. There should be no vegetation within 6.6m of the outside rail to avoid the danger of branches, etc. fouling the new overhead line.
This must be inside the railway boundary so there is nothing you can do.
My house is the same the railway is just feet away and it is electrified , has been like that for 30 years now since the electrification was put in. Never had a problem , in fact it is better. The old diesel trains used to actually shake the house , the electric ones are much quieter , we hardly notice them now.
