When I was in employment (now retired) I always turned the washing machine on when I left for work. After retirement I turned it on when going out shopping etc.
A couple of months ago the machine made a loud bang, on investigating the noise the kitchen was full of black smoke yet the machine was still working.
I dread to think what could have happened had I not been there. So ABers think about what you allow to run while you are out.

I understand you point eccles, but what IF one of yours were to suffer from you leaving something on when you were out.
As we have never made a point of not leaving electrical appliances running when we are out of the house if anything untoward was to happen I wouldn't blame myself or himself.
Caran, I might be inclined to agree with them if it wasn't for the Economy 7 aspect. It seems very unfair, seeing that the electricity board encourage you to use the leccy overnight, when most folk are in bed.
choux. ive just read your post...............tragic.
Choux, I don't think your point went unheeded - on a busy thread not everyone gets a reply.

Yours is a salutary tale with a tragic end and makes me think differently now.
Every thing is what if's though. We once had a car catch fire while we were in it.
Choux, what a tragedy. You'd never think the telly would set on fire. (Well, I never would). I guess we take so much for granted these days.
Dryers can be hazardous if they aren't ventilated. You can get a build up of lint under the machine and this gets very dry and can be combustible. They need to be vented out a window or something.
I think I recall reading recently about deaths caused by a faulty phone charger left on overnight and catching fire. Leaving things on charge is something I'd bet we all do.
I always used to put washing machine on just before leaving house , then we had a water leak, now never ever put it on if going out.
Thank you ducksie for posting the link re Beko. I have one of the fridge freezers mentioned and am now waiting a call back from one of their engineers. I would not have known otherwise.
