Cool laid back jazz would be 'modern' jazz rather than your street bands that are 'trad' jazz.

Modern is the musicians interpretation & improvisation. It often takes a few bars before you recognise the tune but thats the enjoyment.

Trad is street bop, kinda low-brow jazz ;)

We used to go to a local pub where Eddie O'Donnell (a local favourite) used to play trad jazz, sometimes someone would just turn up and join in with the band, great nights, sadly Eddie passed away last year and we no longer go there.

I hate jazz but from that list I would definitely pick Time Out by Dave Brubeck as it takes me right back to my first love.
