It is apparently extremely painful and babies have been known to pass out with the pain. I have never understood the reasons as to why people would do it to their children im afraid, if theyre not meant to have them why are they born with them?
There is absolutely no benefit to circumcision, and there are risks with it. We researched this before the birth of our son and were horrified at what we discovered. We absolutely did not circumcise him! There is a wicked gallery on the net somewhere (I did not save the link) showing comparisons. Some people claim it looks better, and there is a very weak argument for health reasons.
The removal of this very sensitive skin also reduces the sensitivity. The newly exposed part of the plumbing down there loses much of its sensitivity. The reduction of skin also reduces the glide effect - probably not proper to go into that here. But most men who were circumcised late in life complain.
Certainly encourage your friend to thoroughly research this before deciding, and not to succumb to social pressure. The boy could always have the procedure done at a later time. It is his choice in my opinion.
I think it is extremely rare that a doctor will authorise for this to be done, my friend recently took her son who has a tight foreskin to the doctor and he said it was generally considered an unecessary procedure with little hygiene benefit - he just recommended techniques to gently stretch the skin. So she may find trouble in actually finding somone to perform the procedure without serious medical reason.
So when I had to get rushed into hospital as a small boy because my foreskin had to be pulled back to clean due to an infection and it split becuase it was too tight, should my mom have left it alone as she might get sued or the doctor be sacked for mutilating my genitals?
The cons are hardley enough to say its a bad thing to do nor are the pros enough to say it must be done. I personally think it's good especially for hygiene. The foreskin is there to protect the glans. This might have been needed when we dragged our what-nots on the ground during the early stages of evolution but thats hardly the case now. The same as the appendix - that serves no purpose anymore and can be removed.
Lauralane, in the end it will be your friends decision. I can say I have no negitive things to say about it, and the thought of not having to worry about things like smegma makes me a happy man!
Of course not Adampy, it is in cases where there is absolutely no medical reasons that we were referring to, if that was not made clear in my reply then I will say it now. Some functions of the foreskin are as follows. For those who are happy to remove them for no medical reason from their child then I suppose that is their right, although some males I know wish that they had been left intact!
1. to cover and bond with the synechia so as to permit the development of the mucosal surface of the glans and inner foreskin.
2. to protect the infant's glans from faeces and ammonia in diapers.
3. to protect the glans penis from friction and abrasion thoughout life.
4. to keep the glans moisturized and soft with emollient oils.
5. to lubricate the glans.
6. to coat the glans with a waxy protective substance.
7. to provide sufficient skin to cover an erection by unfolding.
8. to provide an aid to masturbation and foreplay.
9. to serve as an aid to penetration.
10. to reduce friction and chafing during intercourse.
11. to serve as erogenous tissue because of its rich supply of erogenous receptors.
12. to contact and stimulate the G-spot of the female partner.
although i have not done this my self i would recomend it as wiv 4skin urine gets trapped evry time man urinates and if not pulled back and cleaned properly evry time u can get an infection that cud lead 2being circumcision any way.
