At last the frogs are here !!

Just a quick one for anyone whose interested.

Part of my daily duties is patrolling rivers, ponds, lakes and streams, an enviable task in fine weather but not so much when its rough!

This morning I saw frogs spawning in a small cluster of woodland dew ponds. I've been keeping a close watch over the last few weeks and this is the first bit of frog activity I've noticed this year, still hoping to see some spawn in my garden ponds though!

Just thought I'd share that with nature lovers..

Thanks for the update logman. Don't know where you're based - you might be further north than me and I know it's been much colder up there but it's a good sign to see it, isn't it?

That is good news logman. What a fabulous job you must have. So much to see around the seasons, especially now. Springy things are certainly happening now and very fast. Sadly no pond for me, but my neighbour had masses of the stuff at the end of January, but then we are right on the south coast. I think the Forsythia will be out in bloom this week which will please the Sparrows.

This year ,for the first time ever ,i have been able to see frogs spawning. We have had a pond for many years and usually have a good amount of frogspawn.We see the odd frog around the garden -usually when grass cutting .But otherwise we dont notice them much. However yesterday and today our pond has been seething with activity. The water sometimes appears to be boiling what with all the splashing and bubbling. Our grand daughter was happy to see them all be so friendly and giving each other piggy backs.!

Hi wendyS, I'm not too far north otherwise I'd be talking Becks, Burns, loch's etc. conversely my brother who lives about 25 miles north of me always gets the frogs in his garden 2-3 weeks before me, for some reason..

Hi Cetti, yes I always pretend to be unhappy in my work, just in case they stop paying me. january, Wow!, I'd heard of some early reports but thats amasing. Forsythia, yes I had been thinking about that too, the buds are swelling on mine right now and that usualy provides me with a good "bench mark" which usualy means forsythia = frogs, so lets wate and see..

Hi banana, Yes its an awsome specticle. you descripion describes it perfectly, it looked to me like some kind of amphibian jacuzzi going on, if only I could have found a mate! Hu ha..yeah piggy backs, I recon they was of to play leap frog and hop scotch after..

We only have a small pond but I saw frogspawn in ours a couple of weeks ago. We are in the South of England. There is nowhere near as much as we usually have.

I have a new pond Logman. Will the frogs automatically find it or will I have to put some fragspawn in it? Thanks for the update too!
