Hi all,
we are looking to buy a mondeo diesel, about 2008 model. been on autotrader and exchange and mart, but cars all seem 100's of miles away. googled " cars for sale lincolnshire" but came up with a load of dodgy advertising sites, and, then, saw an ad, thinking " i have heard of them, thats a good price" drove 40 miles to find out the google ad was a year old, so no cars at that price. How do you find a nearby car dealer??

On Autotrader you put your postcode into the search field and select the radius you want to travel. The search engine then only returns cars which meet that criteria.

It's in the first line of the search form.
Last time I changed the car I too was frustrated by internet ads not being removed once the car was sold. In the end I did it the old fashioned way and wore away the old shoe leather visiting all the secondhand car yards. Found the perfect car, a make and model I never would have thought about searching for online.
Pistonheads, ebay, [and others] will let you seek a vehicle with a "distance from [your] postcode" option, making it very easy to find cars in your proximity.
Finding a GOOD used car dealer is your biggest challenge. Always call before travelling miles, to see if the car has been sold. Beware of 'dealers' who say......oh, that one's sold but I can get another......usually from a nearby auction, where quality can be very bad.
The second hand car market is an absolute minefield, so take your time and check EVERYTHING before parting with a penny.
