I thought it was just a posh name for a pub that sells food!

A pub that will claim to '...specialise in freshly prepared and cooked food in a traditional pub atmosphere...' ofthen form their own gardens or using locally sourced ingredients. Loads of references to them if you search the web.

It would also be one that concentrates on the food they offer rather than traditional pub surroundings, so will offer more than just 'pub meals' and drink.

Isn't 'gastro' pub an off-putting phrase to use?! It just makes me thing of burping and indegestion!!!

A smart arse chef trying to make tiny bits of meat and veg look like a main meal, then charging you for the privilege of having to lick your own plate. A normal pub will serve you pie and chips with fag ash on it. Safer, and less expensive to eat at home!
