No - according to the Radio Times Guide to TV Comedy (2003 edition). I can't remember if anything specific happened in the last episode, apart from the fact that they never actually got married.

I can imagine Albert Arkwright going down on one knee and saying "N-N-N-Nurse G-G-G-Gladys, W-w-w-will you m-m-m-marry m-m-m-m-me?"

Mind you, if they did get married it would have meant that Arkwright would have had to close the shop, leaving Granville in charge...

Talking of which, I am aware that Arkwright's first name was Albert - because it says so in the book, and he was referred to as such on the programme about the best sitcom. But I was initially surprised to hear that his first name was Albert, because having watched the programme I didn't think he had one. Was the name Albert ever mentioned specifically in any of the scripts? If so, which episode? If not, where did the name Albert come from?
