I thought attempted humour was okay in Q&P, although I know it's sometimes frowned upon in Crosswords.
I think you have misunderstood me - I thought the questioner was asking for the first name, hence my erroneous 'Alexander'.

I then visited another forum and someone asked the clue in full, there I answered 'Selkirk'.
