Surely this is not the answer, if they wish to deter 'sleepers', surely they could have installed large concrete troughs or urns planted with attractive bushes?

Baldric's post has given me a chance to post my favourite Labour Government story.

I'm sure if Boris Johnson and all the other people moaning had homeless people directed to their front garden or property, using it as a toilet etc, they would soon be coming up with a plan to deter them. Unfortunately as it is not in their back yard they can easily say how bad it all is.
if boris had them in his front garden i bet he would be lending them bikes and pointing them in the direction of a local park

more space and fresh air that way lads
// you should have claimed it as a witticism, aog. ;o) //

Anyone else and I might have thought it was, but AOG doesn't really do irony.
Bus shelters have big gaps at the bottom to make them draughtyand sloping narrow benches that are impossible to lie on; park benches have several armrests to stop people lying down; many subways have automatic sprinklers that come on in the early hours for cleaning, apparently

Move people from one place and they'll find another. They will end up in poorer areas where property owners can't afford to pay for deterrents and the councils have even less ability to cope.
//if boris had them in his front garden i bet he would be lending them bikes and pointing them in the direction of a local park //

If I were in his position I'd be doing exactly the same. ;o)
