Up to you really, it wouldn't hurt to remove it but it isn't harming your PC in any way.

Do you have an Epson printer? This thing appeared when I installed my new one a few months ago. I think it's something to do with turning text that's an image into text that you can actually do something with.

If you want to be able to scan a document and then export the text to a word processor (such as Microsoft Word or OpenOffice Writer) or DTP program (such as Microsofoft Publisher or Serif PagePlus) then YES! Otherwise no.
