Gears Not Selecting After Long Journey.

I have a 2008 vw touran. Recently after long motorway runs (150 miles plus) the gears are jamming. I am unable to select a gear for about 2 mins ( it seams like a life time) then it corrects itself and is totally fine for the remainder of the journey. I frequently travel 20 miles on the motor way and it never happens then. Has anyone any ideas what the problem could be? Also the car sometimes judders when moving from 1st to 2nd gear, could these problems be related?

My guess would be oil, get the oil changed with the correct oil.

The point of the question Roy is that the questioner want some idea of what might be the problem and can it be fixed without taking it to a garage I suspect.
