Contaminated Engine Oil

I have found out today that the oil on my Wife's diesel engined car is contaminated and that 40% of it is diesel. The engine has recently seized. I am told that 15% contamination is normally sufficient to seize a diesel engine. Is this true?

i would say yes. the issue is, how has it become contaminated?

sometimes the seals go in the pump and fuel runs into the sump!

well, it did on my forklift truck a few weeks ago,luckily i cought it in time!!

Thanks for all your feedback - Believe it or not the engine only has 15k on the clock. My next job (or sorry, the garage's next job) is to find out how the diesel got there in the first place.
