I have probably selected the wrong category, but can't find a perfect fit.

Someone I know has forgotten/lost his e-mail password. He has created a replacement address and wants to add it to his Facebook details. This involves entering the Facebook password but when he does that the response from Facebook is that he is entering the wrong password. Of course when he tries to replace the password then he also has to enter the previous password which again is not recognised. He uses only an iPad for internet, no PC or anything else, and he is logged onto Facebook OK but can't execute any password dependent operations.

I know nothing about Facebook - is there a way to either recover the Facebook password or reset it without needing the e-mail address listed as the contact address there, which he now can't access either ? Any suggestions on how to resolve this ?

I can't see an immediate solution but it might be worth checking whether his original email provider has a procedure for recovering/resetting lost passwords. However, since you've not told us which email service he was using, I can't point you in the right direction.

Thanks Chris. It's gmail and he is unable to get the password there because it requires answers to questions to which he has no answer and he must provide them (blank/"none" is not an option).
Sounds very suspect ! You have a lot of info regarding your friend ....FB should be able to tell you all the answers ....

Yes, he knows the Facebook password but it is rejected. I do not know the history of his account or whether someone might have changed it without his knowing it, although he has had help on resolving problems regarding the use of his iPad in the past.

He is a bit lost and asked me to help him put a photo I have onto his Facebook page - not having an account myself (nor do I want one) I can't do this through Facebook and iPads don't have USB connections. Is neighbours talking to each other suspicious to you Bonkers ?

I discovered that there is a feature on iPads which allows you to get it to display stored passwords, the currently valid Facebook password might be among them. However, whether this is a later variant or a deliberate modification, my neighbour's iPad does not have the feature. Thus, I have assisted him in setting up a new Facebook page and he will have to transfer his activities to that if he loses all access to his old one. Meanwhile, his iPad has remained signed onto (logged in) Facebook so, until/unless he logs off he will have some access - but not for anything that requires authentication by entering the password.

Thank you again Chris, the only one who tried to be of help.
