Acute Cholecystitis
9 Answers
I was diagnosed with this on Monday, given 3 lots of intravenous antibiotics and discharged the following day with a week's course of oral antibiotics. The previous week I had been prescribed amoxicillin for a chest infection. My blood test results show ALT 141, ALP 267 and WCC 14.9. Are these results anything to worry about?
Any help is appreciated, thank you.

No.
The WCC is high due to the acute infection in the gall bladder and will settle when the antibiotics "kick in."
The ALT and ALP are also high which should settle, but in my opinion indicate that there may well be a stone blocking your common bile duct causing a degree of live damage.
no big deal.

I've heard others say that too, I haven't experienced child birth though is it wrong to be a little cheered that, if I do, it won't be that bad :)
Did they give you advice about restricting fat in meals and avoiding large meals? I had to stick to very low fat and eat in small amounts or I really suffered for it after.
Have they given you any pain relief if you may have any more pain, if you have gallstones? I found codeine phosphate from the hospital to have with paracetamol helped a bit and diclofenac for shoulderblade pain. I was also given spasmonol a few days before my op when I got really poorly again.
I hope you don't have any continuing pain though if you do, get right back to the doctors and find a way forwards. I had acute cholecystis in the November and didn't have my gallbladder out until the following March and it was really not a pleasant wait.

Eve, I was advised about diet but was not given any painkillers, just told to take paracetemol and if the pain should recur to go straight to A and E. The approx waiting time is 3-4 months, hope it's sooner rather than later as we fly to Mauritius at the end of Nov for my son's wedding. Thanks for the suggestions re pain relief, will stock up next time I venture into town.
