An EU citizen can drive here on their own national licence unless they've 'become resident' (which means that they've been living in this country for 185 days or more). Once they've become resident they are required to exchange their licence for a British one but no new driving test is required.

the reason why i ask is i had a workmate who owns property over in france and when he knew the firm was shutting down he said he would go over to live
he had a car and bike and said he did not fancy taking his test again
his bike was a gold wing
he is at present still working up north so i presume he has come back and he will just go over for his holidays
