Sterile Moisture Swab On Stick ..

Anyone familiar with these & what they're actually called? From vague memory they are a kind of small moistened paddle shaped cotton pad on a stick for wetting elderly persons mouth when not drinking enough fluids.

Sorry, as folk who have seen my posts on the right to choose before I am as hot as hell on the person's right to choose just about regardless of their mental state; but withholding enough water to wet a person's mouth because it removes their right to choose is madness, especially if they are unable to ask.

Anyone who is a mouth breather (like me) knows that a very dry mouth is painful - I could not and never did stand by and not use a wet swab with my late Husband, I realise the problems that professional carers have put upon them are different to what we do at home.

That's true, mamya. I have seen people trying to bite the ends. I wonder whether something happened. That's usually what changes procedures.

I agree Mamya but the other issue is what advice professionals give to the people who are caring at home for loved ones, also what items they can supply for that care. We had lovely district nurses when DH died. Caring and understanding, very professional but also with excellent common sense.
