Youtube Login Problem, Is There A Way To Fix This?
7 Answers
I can no longer log in or access my YouTube account using my virginmedia email address. Apparently, Google, in their infinite wisdom, made these changes effective from 16th June. To be fair, I did receive a notification of this change from virginmedia on the 9th June (the first and only notification in relation to this change) and advising me to log in to my YouTube account before the 16th June and change my email address (presumably to a gmail one). Unfortunately, however, I didn't see this email until AFTER the deadline and now I am unable to login to my YouTube account that I've had for over ten years. I've tried contacting Google twice via email but have yet to receive a response. I've even tried phoning them but after being kept waiting in a queue for over half an hour I ended up hanging up.
Personally, I find it ridiculous that YouTube account holders were only given seven days notice of this major change. I know the simple solution would be to create a whole new YouTube account, but I really don't want to do that unless push comes to shove.
I would appreciate any help with this.

Thanks methyl, I've tried following the instructions on the link you gave but so far, no joy :(
I get as far as here:-
'Click Get Started. At this point Google will offer two options. Choose 'Select a different address for your personal Google Account'[i
but the problem is there are no options for me to ]"Get Started" or "Select a different address for your personal Google Account"[i] However I will keep trying just in case I've missed something.
Incidentally I have a desktop computer running Windows 8.1 and Internet Explorer 11.
Like you, I don't use my virgin media email all the time. The annoying thing is I'm still getting YouTube notifications sent to my virgin media account to tell me people have subscribed or commented on my videos. YouTube was so much better before Google decided to start messing it all up.
Thanks again, methyl, I'll let you know if I can figure this thing out.

I completely agree with your sentiments regarding Google, methyl, in fact apart from its search engine, I despise anything Google-related with a passion. I know a lot of people on here sing the praises of Google Chrome but personally, I wouldn't use it if they paid me! In the 15+ years that I've had computers, I've always used Internet Explorer and never had any problems but I've lost count of the number of friends and associates who've installed Google Chrome and had nothing but problems. Only two months ago a friend asked me to look at his laptop because it was acting all sluggish. As soon as I switched it on I saw what the problem was. He'd downloaded and installed Chrome and had inadvertently installed something called delta-search, which had pretty much taken over his laptop. Some might argue he should have unchecked the option to install delta-search when he was installing Chrome, but the sheer fact that Google endorses spyware such as delta-search speaks volumes. My advice to anyone is give Google Chrome a very wide berth, it's not worth the hassle.
Rant over.
Anyway, getting back on track, I've still got no further on the problems I'm having. Also, I've been checking out the Virgin Media forums and I saw your posts relating to Google and YouTube (even added my own tuppence worth). I'm still seething over the fact we weren't given more notice of this change. You'd have thought they'd have at least given us a month's notice with repeated reminders every few days.

It wouldn't surprise me, askyourgran, Google is clearly bent on bullying us all into having gmail accounts and at every given opportunity they're in our faces telling us to install Google Chrome. It's a pity they didn't stick to just being a search engine. Now, Google has become the cancer of the Internet.
