Ok, I no raw chicken can be really bad for you, but if you were to chop vegetables say, with a knife, or chopping board that has come into contact with raw chicken, and then you cook the vegetables, surely the chicken would cook too, and then become harmless...

Bacteria live in the scores and chips on chopping boards, knives and also in tea towels and generally on working surfaces. The issue is as much of cross contamination, not that there is likely to be salmonella from raw meat on the carotts. Soil can carry listeria so the bacteria can pass the opposite way as well onto raw meats, so good basic hygiene is important in any kitchen.
As stated food should always be thoroughly.
It is true that chicken could present a danger when you eat it raw, but the danger faid away when properly cooked. But I think that over hygiene in the UK is dangerous to, the reason why I saying this, is because everithing need to be cooked true and true. The danger is that your body can not make antibody's against other illnesses. Where I comme from we have on an regular base Rolls with row mince and Raw meat and I can tell you that never suffered from food poisening. In my country the food poisening is 1 in 250. So do worry to much if you use a nife to cut chichen first and use it to cut vegetables you do go die from it, so long the meet that you buy is frech
