Ipad Fromtokyo

Hi everyone,

If I was to buy an Ipad in Tokyo,would it work here in the UK? Would it just be the plug I would need to change? Just a bit wary buying electronics abroad but it's for my Dad.

It's very unlikely that you will be able to buy abroad an electronical item and effect a saving on purchasing the same item in the uk. Voltages could be different and you will have to purchase appropriate transformers to correct matters. Also there is the issue of import duties which would apply if you are stopped by customs with such an item in your luggage. Furthermore you will Not have the standard 12months guarantee which applies to all goods bought within and used in the UK.

Ours were bought overseas with no bother.

Yes you may need to buy a different adaptor but we have a big drawer full of elastic trickery and adapters and had no problem. The Apple shop will sort your dad out.

Son's laptop bought in Japan, worked fine in UK.

Some things come with an international warranty, others with just for the country its bought in.

I think buying abroad may affect any help apple give you in this country. Where if you buy from an apple shop here they are very helpful. Not sure could be wrong but for the sake of £120 I would not risk it.

The adapter that comes with the ipad takes our 220-240v and outputs 5v to the ipad - so you'd need a uk adapter.
