Yes,it makes you wonder!
I went into a Coffee Shop a couple of years back and after queuing the spotted kid said "We have run out of coffee".
Yep they had and on a Saturday afternoon ???

So maybe I should have asked the question "Do you sell coffee ?"
I asked what hot drinks they did have and he said "Hot Chocolate and tea".
Are you offering a discount on the Hot chocolate then ?
The answer was no and then he says why should we ?
I said because your a coffee shop with one job ...yes one job to do ...Sell coffee and you can't even get that right lol

Oh dear Sir,I like that one! I havr recently experienced KFC running out of chicken!!
Reminds me of Waterstones the bookshops. I think they have gone bust now.
Saw a book they wanted £39.00 for. Fired up amazon and they had it for £25.
I asked the kid at the till ,will you price match.
He said "Why should we ?"
Coz it would stop me pressing the one click order button on my phone and buying from amazon.
Click bye
KFC running out of chicken ....so funny ...

Yup agch, done that, the only time I attempted to buy a KFC fried chicken 'meal' they had run out of chicken. That was about 35 years ago, never been back.

Some establishments are so short sighted Sir.Big emphasis on customer service and they so often fail miserably....
Perhaps the question was phrased with the wisdom of hindsight.
Not quite as daft a question as it first appears - when our local PO closed, I started to buy my stamps from Asda.

They would sometimes run out, the order hadn't been made or they were late to arrive etc.

A friendly neighbour offered to walk to the nearest PO and get me some, lo and behold they had none either.

Undeterred I went online and ordered the direct from Post Office, paid for postage and expected them to arrive first class - it took two and a half weeks.

Blimey M,in my case you wouldnt expect it to happen in a large town though! Is your location a village?
Royal Mail are just as useless. But in my favour :-)
Paid for post redirection to Switzerland for 12 months.
They are only supposed to forward letters and not packets or parcels.
Our house sitters are supposed to look after any parcels , that we collect on our return trips every 2-3 months. But good old Royal Mail sometimes forward them to us here in Switzerland ....Ta
Large town and yes was ridiculous.
Not as daft in a Post Office as "do you have any apples"
But isn't it just an idiomatic way of saying "Can I have some ..."
My wife gets cross with me because I say "have you got the xxx?" when I mean "pass me the xxx"
