"His two word malediction, the first a gerund and the second, 'English', was particularly hurtful. I'm Irish."

Is it clear, or clearish, what the phrase was?

no it was a present participle,

and would be 'indulging in carnal knowledge'

If you translate l'amour est fantastique as "loving is amazing"

then loving is a gerund and amazing is a present participle adjective

but we Brits get confused by words ending in ing

I feel a need to tell younow what the gerundive construction is....
Please resist.

I wanted the reader to think of him saying, "****ing English", without me actually saying it. In that I've failed?
No I thought that Sandy, not a fail at all, perfectly clear :)
...just to be really annoying, Sandy, I guess in this case it may actually be a Gerundive ;o)

Ty, Kvalidir.
I really need someone to edit my scribblings. I wonder where I might find someone? :-)
Lol
Sandy. Don't know where you can find an editor, but I know of an abridger.
You can read between the lines very quickly, there are no words to hold you back.
Question Author
Siroracle, when you say, 'abridger', do you mean someone who would rip out the last 10 pages of the typescript?
Got it in one Sandy.
If this book was a highbrow and intelligent piece of literature (or I had actually paid attention at school) then I would probably know what those words meant.

But if it was a book that I was reading then big words like that would not appear.

If you are writing your book in longhand I might be able to help you type it up. I will avoid, at all costs, and 'spot of ink'.

Question Author
Wolf63, that's a kind offer. But it isn't really a book just a collection of scribblings that will never leave the memory of this computer.
i also have a similar book on my computer. I understand :-)
Me too, (having a book on the boil on my laptop) I have to sit down and put it all in order but it's something I keep putting off.
