Am a widow and prefer to be titled Mrs rather than Ms. Ms is a lone female and denotes gender equality according to PC. I'm not comfortable with Ms be bandied globally about me whereas Mr gives no such value.
I agree tambo I would remain a Mrs if MrAsk popped off, I don't like the word Ms or mizz, I understand it as a gender thing for bi/lesbian women. My divorced friend returned to her maiden name rather than be a Mrs or Ms.
You are entitled to choose your own title. In my job I have to address a lot of people as Ms as they often don't give their title and I hate it as it's presumptuous. I'm recently married and irritated at Miss or Ms.
The council meeting I had to attend call me Ms. The council know where I live & what I own. I would rather be title Mme, I think thats befitting my situation ;)
"Mr is a married man and Master is an unmarried man"
There is absolutely no basis for that assertion throughout the history of the terms being used as honorifics. Master and Mister were indicators of social rank and then the two together became an indicator of age - totally unrelated to marital status.
