Never really understood the attraction of trams. They are just constricted busses in the first place.
It's a balloon, hopefully a one-off. Like O_G, I don't understand trams coming back either. I don't see the advantages.
I understand they are supposed to be a cleaner and cheaper mode of mass transport.
They just move the waste products back in the chain. Might be useful if all transport was like it but one can get electric vehicles anyway. And a few trams won't make a lot of difference. The problem with vehicles going electric is that we already want to know how we are going to supply the power demand already, without encouraging demand growth.
I think the people who caused the delays should be strung up...
The problem with having a tram system is that it freezes the transport routes. That's why so many cities had to do away with them after WWII. With their populations moving from slums to new housing estates on the outskirts, and traditional industries moving, or closing down, the old tram routes became redundant.
People trip over the fixed tracks too :-)
And I can't remember how many times I fell off my bike when a wheel got stuck in the track!
The appeal of the trams must surely to get rid of diesel fumes in cities - and I applaud that.
Trams have been re-introduced to Nottingham and though they caused a few years of traffic chaos, they have been very successful at speeding up the flow of traffic in and out of the city centre. A further 2 lines are currently being built which, hopefully, will be just as popular.

Gordie - you were going to Edinburgh the other week. Did you go on the trams? How were they?
