Time to ban these fairy tales from schools? Surely all this clap trap has no place in education beyond the study of how stupid the human race is. Let's at least make faith schools illegal to start with.

Or...perhaps extremism is the only way to tackle extremism?

But how would a ban work in practice?

In public, I assume a ban on an Islamic dress could be enforced, plus the closure of Islamic faith schools and mosques...but then you have the problem banning Islam in the home. Would it not be 'half measures' to ban Islam in public without enforcing the ban within homes too?

And would the ban extend to Islamic texts...not only the Koran, but any books that promote Islam?

Actually...we already have a precedent for this - 'Clause 28'!!!

So in effect, it *could* work. But I suspect the practicialities of enforcing the ban would cause a few headaches.

Not to mention capacity problems if Muslims decided to follow other religions en masse.

I mean, what about the parking at Anglican churches, synogogues and temples?

you cannot ban religion, but you can remove it from any sort of national regognition and remove any special treatment. Make faith schools illegal as a minimum. Ultimately I'd like to remove all forms of religion from school life. There is a place in history classes and possibly some sort of social study classes where religion would be a subject to be aware of as a human condition but it should not be forced on children by prayers and hymns etc and other religious indoctrination methods. Outside of public institutions people can, if they must, follow their particular brand of BS at their own behest.

Not often I agree with Tora but I agree with his closing remark.

To me, the very fact that they have to set up a place to shove their ideas into the pliant minds of children is proof that even they acknowledge that faith doesn't come to a person spontaneously.

I have absolutely no beef with anyone who electively takes on a belief system whilst being an adult, with a questioning mind (I'll still be baffled by it, though). I acknowledge that it's easier to learn a large and complex subject when young and without the complications of work/life balance. Maybe adolescence would be a suitable time, after all?

I would hope that common sense and an enlightened approach would prevail here. The irrational and knee-jerk reactions to faith schools seem just as extreme as some of the ideologies and beliefs being satirised
