Any other clues? Morph on "Vision On" and "Take Hart" sound the obvious ones, but Mr Turnip on "Whirlygig" from the 1950s sounds about right too.

Thanks for all those, but no. I can visualize a presenter sat at a desk and he opens a box and a real man, made small with trick photography, climbs out and has a conversation. (hate to say it but it could have been Mr R Harris but not sure)
