Watching Dr Saleyha Ahsan on the BBC1 programme, 'Fast Tales', this morning I was struck by the resolve and devotion of the people observing Ramadan.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, Isn't it a great pity that Lent in the Christian world has largely dwindled away to a thin shadow of its former self?

I have never understood this tolerance towards preachers who, using loudspeakers, berate people on religious matters in the street. Why isn't this considered harassment? if I went to a lay preachers home and shouted at him through his letterbox for an hour I would be arrested. Only religion is allowed to annoy people in public.

DrFilth, it's time I moved to Manchester, where I live it's a regular occurrence every Saturday afternoon.
Thank you sandy, I wasn't expecting BA. :o)

If you spent an hour shouting through the letterbox of some lay preacher you deserve the BA . :-)
hc. I have yet to see someone sermonising in our parks or town. The last time the Pope visited the UK was in 2010 and before that in 1982, hardly an everyday ocurrence. The Catholic faith has a strong following and the visit warranted the huge turnout to see the Holy Father. You only need to visit Leeds and Bradford Airport on a Saturday evening times vary[i when the plane from Islamabad lands to witness just about the same amount visiting their families or even their family Doctor.
As for the Salvation Army, all religions have church services and in tandem their voluntary work for the homeless, hungry and distressed is done without fanfare[i]except when they parade with the band]. They are also known as the Army of God, nonetheless they do not plant bombs on buses etc. or strap one on would be suicide cases.
Islamabad lands? Gosh
//when the plane from Islamabad lands...//
Yes, Vulcan. When i was in town recently there was a religious group singing and all the shops around that area were shutting, because they couldn't hear their customers. I asked a member of staff in Carphone Warehouse if they had called the police. He said "yes, but they can't do anything about it, because it's religious".
Indeed //when the plane landed// To draw a diagram isn't possible on here. We arrived at Leeds and Bradford Airport on a delayed flight from the Canaries and clearing customs just slightly ahead of the said flight.
It wasn't the amount of people disembarking from that plane, it was also the sheer numbers of people waiting for the passengers to arrive, the noise was horrendous like Bollywood central casting. Whole families were there, barriers had been erected it was Bedlam. Forging your way past them all, an hour and a half late, tired and *** off was not the best return to my homeland, this was remarked on I may add by our fellow passengers not in my company.
