Not to pour cold water on your excellent story Dee, but it reminds me of a very different experience recounted by a friend -
waiting in the bus station on a winter day, it was blowing a proverbial blizzard, my friend was joined by what he described as the archetypal old lady - she had a headscarf, coat down to her ankles, shopping bag, glasses, zip-up boots and stood at around five feet tall.
My friend and the old lady waited in silence for over an hour, while signs of life gradually vanished in the snowstorm until they seemed to the only two people left in the world.
Finally, the dim distant lights of a bus lumbered into view and a bus pulled into the bus station, its destination blind advising that it was the very bus the two were waiting for.
The bus proceeded to crawl at a snail's pace around the bus station, passing its to potential passengers without pause, before lumbering off to be once again lost in the still-falling snow.
My friend, being possessed of the patience of several saints simply sighed and contemplated his next move.
Not so his potential travelling companion who voiced her opinion with the only words spoken since her arrival at the bus stop over an hour previously.
"Well the *** ***!" was the senior citizen's opinion of recent events, and she stomped off in the direction of the retreating bus, similarly to be swallowed up by the ever-falling snow.
Not all old people are as sweet as yours Dee!!
